Recently, I chose the local "Blessing in the Backpack" program to receive the proceeds of the annual Central and Eastern Association of Realtors’ Compassion Committee Golf Outing. 

Corporate sponsors, hole sponsors, donors, golfers and volunteers raised more than US$7,600. 

Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food for school-age children across the United States who may go hungry on weekends. In Tuscarawas County, 18% of children are food insecure.  

Volunteers meet weekly to pack and deliver bags full of breakfast, lunch and snacks for school students to take home on Friday to help bridge the gap between school lunch on Friday and school breakfast on Monday. A bag of food includes two main dishes, two breakfasts, and three to four snacks.
